Teaching Opportunities at CSI

The History Department of the College of Staten Island CUNY invites applications from qualified adjuncts to teach the following four undergraduate course sections at its Willowbrook Campus in the fall 2017 semester(fall 2017 semester begins August 25, 2017).

 

 

HST 260, U.S. HISTORY: FIRST ENCOUNTERS TO THE PRESENT(4 hours, 4 credits)

Course meetsMonday/Wednesday 10:10-12:05 pm(first class meeting Monday, August 28, 2017).

Adjunct would be expected to use a required syllabus and suggested readings, teaching one of a number of sections of the same course.

Abbreviated Course Description: A one semester survey of United States History. While designed to contribute to the liberal arts general education of CSI students and to the training of history majors, the course will be especially valuable to students intending careers as elementary and middle school social studies teachers, since it is based on the content and skills required of elementary and middle school social studies teachers in New York City and State.

 

HST 208, MODERN LATIN AMERICA(4 hours; 4 credits)

Course meets Tuesday/Thursday, 4:40-6:20 pm(first class meeting Tuesday, August 29, 2017).

Course Description:A survey of the social, economic, political, and cultural development of Latin America since independence. The course will focus on the prevailing colonial influences on modern institutions; Cuba, Venezuela, and Brazil as developmental models; and on United States-Latin American relations.

Qualified candidates should have a minimum of a Master’s Degree in History or a related academic field;ABD Ph.D. candidates in these and related fields are welcome to apply. Qualified candidates should also demonstrate suitable teaching experience.
