Center for Integrated Language Communities (CILC) is seeking a Research Assistant

The Center for Integrated Language Communities (CILC), a U.S. DoE-funded National Language Resource Center, is looking for a Research Assistant able to contribute as an active member of the Heritage Telecollaboration (HT) research team. The team is conducting federally-funded projects in post-secondary language pedagogy with the goal of designing and integrating theory-driven telecollaborative modules into existing CUNY Spanish and Chinese courses. Eligibility

Candidates must be enrolled in a CUNY Masters or Doctoral program. Candidates must have experience teaching foreign languages at the undergraduate level–preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching Spanish or Mandarin at CUNY colleges–and have experience or interest in heritage language learning and the use of educational technology. Applicants are encouraged to submit a brief personal statement explaining how the project fits their professional interests.

 

Job Description

Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:

  • developing of telecollaboration projects (evaluate current research on telecollaborative language learning, collaborate on the design of learning activities, rubrics, and handouts, assist with data collection, data analysis and publications)
  • assisting with the evaluation, selection and setup of web tools and mobile apps (e.g., Skype, Google Hangouts, Facebook groups, Instagram hashtags, WeChat SMS messaging, Google Sites pages, etc), and the training of faculty and students in the use of selected software
  • participating at in-person or online meetings, take minutes and create meetings’ reports
  • contributing content to the CILC website and courses’ webpages
  • assisting with the center’s administrative tasks and additional projects

 

Occasional travel to Lehman College, Queens College and Queensborough Community College might be required.

 

The Research Assistant will work approximately 5-7 hours a week and receive an annual compensation of approximately around $10,000 per year. The Research Assistant will be expected to set a consistent work schedule at CILC’s Graduate Center offices.

Ideally the position will begin in July 2015 with possibility to work remotely if necessary for the months of July and August 2015.
