The Urban Planning program in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University is seeking an instructor to teach an introductory course in Community Development Finance for our Community Development Concentration. The Urban Planning program is one of the oldest in the nation and has approximately 110 Masters students, 25 Ph.D. students and seven full time faculty. The Urban Planning program’s mission is to prepare our students to become leaders of the profession, who are technically capable, ethically informed and committed to the pursuit of equity and social justice in the betterment of the lives of urban people and urban places.

The instructor will be responsible for developing and teaching a course which introduces students to the policy and practice of community development finance, including how private sector developers and lenders work with nonprofits, foundations, and the public sector to promote sustainable affordable housing, economic development, and other community-based projects that meet both financial as well as social impact criteria. Of particular interest are finance and development strategies that target marginalized communities that have experienced disinvestment.

Qualified applicants will have education and/or experience in the area of community development finance. Interested parties should submit a cover letter and C.V. to Lance Freeman, lf182@columbia.edu by December 1, 2015.
