GC Wellness Center: Where to Get a Flu Vaccine

A yearly flu vaccine is the first and most important step in protecting against this serious disease. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the 2020-2021 flu season will coincide with the current COVID-19 pandemic, and a flu vaccine is recommended to reduce flu symptoms that may be confused with symptoms of COVID-19. Prevention of and reduction in the severity of the flu can help alleviate stress on our health care systems. The Wellness Center Student Health Services, the CDC and the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYCDOHMH) recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine as by then end of October 2020. Students are urged to obtain the flu vaccine as early as possible.

Students with insurance are generally covered for the vaccine by their plans, including NYSHIP, and should not incur a cost. For uninsured students, there are free and low-cost options, however due to COVID-19 these options are more limited. The Wellness Center is currently operating remotely and will not be offering flu vaccine this year. The following is a list of sites that offer the vaccine:
