Leon Levy Center of Biography Fellowships for 2017-2018

Biography Fellowships for 2017-2018

On behalf of Interim Director, David Nasaw, and Executive Director, Kai Bird, who will take office in January, 2017, we are pleased to announce that The Leon Levy Center of Biography will be accepting applications for four resident fellowships at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York for the 2017-2018 academic year. Awards include writing space, full access to Graduate Center and City University of New York libraries and research facilities, and a stipend of $65,000. Applications for 2017-2018 are due December 15, 2016.

We welcome applications from unaffiliated writers and scholars and from academics. While we evaluate each application on its own merits, we give preference in the award of fellowships to writers and scholars who have not yet published a biography or received fellowships for the writing of a biography. Published non-fiction and fiction writers who are undertaking their first biography are also encouraged to apply.

More information on The Leon Levy Center for Biography, a list of past fellows and their publications, and guidelines for application are available on our website: http://www.leonlevycenterforbiography.org/fellowships

Applications require a brief CV or resume (3 pages max), a narrative account of the applicant’s career (250 words), a project description (750 words), a sample of the proposed biography (maximum 2,500 words), and four letters of reference, which must be postmarked by the deadline. Fellowship decisions will be announced, and all applicants notified, in mid-April.
