Research Assistant wanted for Financial History project

 

RESEARCH ASSISTANT/FINANCE, FINANCIAL HISTORY

WANTED: Graduate student—PhD or Masters level–with interest in finance and financial history. Added plus would be interest in/knowledge of railways.

NATURE OF PROJECT: understanding the nature of foreign company participation in U.S. high speed rail projects from the 1960’s to present. How and why did promoters of high speed rail rely on foreign rail manufacturers and foreign investors? What do foreign companies bring to high speed rail projects that are not provided by domestic industry and finance? And more, since the research is in an exploratory phase.

FUNDING: This research is funded by The University Transportation Research Center, federal Region 2– a consortium of public and private universities carrying out research and education on all modes of transportation (with CUNY as the lead institution; offices at City College).

SKILLS REQUIRED: interviewing rail industry and government officials, among others; locating, reading, and summarizing relevant reports and documents; analyzing company ownership structures; analyzing linkages between manufacturing companies and their financial backers.

HOURLY RATE: $20-$25, depending on skills and experience.

NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: will vary with research needs; approximately 5 hours per week; possibly more some weeks; less others.

PERIOD/DURATION OF JOB: March through May; September through December , 2017. (June to August also possible, depending on your and my availability.)
