A Panel Discussing New York’s Forgotten, Postwar, Three-Term Mayor

Room C198

Historian Mason Williams hosts this panel discussion, exploring the pivotal, transformative, and neglected mayoralty of Robert F. Wagner, Jr.

Richard Flanagan will speak about his new book, which explores how the postwar reform insurgency created Manhattan’s “plebiscitary” Democratic Party under Wagner’s reign. He will be joined by Michael Woodsworth, Jeffrey Kroessler, and Clarence Taylor, who shall address different facets of Wagner’s policy legacy, such as crime, housing, race, and poverty.
