The Museum of the City of New York seeks a full-time Research Assistant

The Museum of the City of New York seeks a full-time Research Assistant for its upcoming exhibition New York at Its Core, which will offer visitors a view of New York City from its settlement as a Dutch Colony in 1609 to the questions that face it in the twenty first century. The job will entail supporting curatorial staff by conducting object, image, and historical research online and in archival collections and presenting that research to the curatorial and design team.

 

Additional responsibilities will include:

  • Clerical tasks related to the exhibition
  • Tracking schedules
  • Proofreading
  • Scheduling meetings
  • Data management

 

Candidates should hold a BA in History or a related field; possess an excellent academic record; and have completed a significant research project, such as a senior thesis, which incorporated archival research. Candidates should be proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.  The ideal candidate is collegial, self-motivated, and highly detail-oriented, with an ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative environment.

 

This is a full-time temporary position that will last 12 to 18 months.
