11/2 – Victoria Phillips on archives

Victoria Phillips will be giving a one-hour workshop this Thursday, November 2 at 5 pm in  the History dissertation room (5114.01).

In addition to completing her memoir for the Biography and Memoir program, she has a PhD in history from Columbia University and numerous MA’s; in 2020, she published Martha Graham’s Cold War: The Dance of American Diplomacy for Oxford University Press, exploring Graham’s promotion of dance across thirty nations; her next book will be a biography of Eleanor Lansing Dulles, sister to John Foster and Allen Dulles. She has taught at Columbia University and the London School of Economics, and is a Global Fellow at the Wilson Center, a member of the Oxford University Centre for Life Writing, and a founding member of the Global Biography Working Group.

Victoria also has extensive experience in the archives, not only as a researcher but in her capacity as director of the Cold War Archival Research project (CWAR), the History, Culture and Diplomacy project, and Digital Resources and Archival Sharing for the Society of Historians of American Foreign Relations.She also serves on the board of the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
