GC Digital Initiatives Presidential Research Fellowship Positions

GC Digital Initiatives is searching for two doctoral students to work as Presidential Research Fellows during the 2025-2026 academic year.

  1. Scheduling Coordinator

They seek a doctoral student who will focus on scheduling meetings and appointments for the Director of GC Digital Initiatives, GC Digital Initiatives, the MA Program in Digital Humanities, and the MS Program in Data Analysis and Visualization Program. This position requires excellent organizational and communication skills, as well as attentiveness to email communication and interpersonal dynamics. A positive and friendly attitude, sensitivity to deadlines, and the ability to provide prompt responsiveness to email communications are essential. Also important is a good working knowledge of the Graduate Center and CUNY and extremely strong interpersonal skills. This position is largely remote.

  1. Budget and Financial Operations Coordinator

They seek a doctoral student with strong skills in communication, budget analysis, and financial accounting to coordinate budgets for multiple GCDI accounts. This work involves communication with the Business Office, CUNY Research Foundation, GC Foundation, and Provost’s Office to track and follow up on a variety of expenses, including travel arrangements, speaker honoraria, independent contractor paperwork, and student payments. Knowledge of CUNY Buy, Google Sheets, and other budget tracking software are essential. Just as important are strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a self-directed fashion to ensure that budgets are spent down and accounted for. Some in-person work is required for this position, though much of it can be done remotely.

Both positions report to Matt Gold, Associate Professor of English and Digital Humanities and Director of GC Digital Initiatives.

Eligibility

Graduate Center doctoral students within their first 7 years of GC funding are eligible to apply.

Compensation

Compensation for the fellowship positions will be a minimum of $28,334 for the academic year. Fellows will be appointed to the Graduate Center payroll as Graduate Assistant Bs (GAB) at their own current rate and also receive a Provost’s Award paid through the Office of Financial Aid. The GAB title provides eligibility to purchase the low-cost NYSHIP health insurance as well as in-state tuition remission for fellows who are within their first 10 registered semesters of doctoral study. The 2017-2023 PSC-CUNY Contract also provides in-state tuition remission at the Level 3 tuition rate for doctoral students for four additional semesters past the first 10 registered semesters of doctoral study as long as they are employed in a title recognized under Article 1 of the collective bargaining agreement.

The initial appointment is for one year (exact dates vary and will be specified upon appointment). Determinations of re-appointments will be made on an annual basis depending on individual eligibility and GC needs.
