Curatorial Research Fellow
The Hispanic Society Museum & Library seeks a part time temporary Curatorial Research Fellow beginning October 2024. The Fellow will be part of a team researching and cataloguing the Hispanic Society’s renowned collection of Goya prints, paintings, and related documents. This position will require onsite work 2-3 days per week and will be appointed from October 2024 to January 2025, with the possibility for reappointment through Summer 2025.
The Fellow will assist with launching the recently announced Goya Research Center at the Hispanic Society. The Fellow’s work will further the Center’s objectives by preserving, promoting and fostering research into the work of iconic Spanish artist Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828).
Reporting to the Curator of Prints and Photographs, the Fellow will assist with cataloguing the Goya collection, conducting research, data entry, and performing some administrative and clerical duties. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with a strong interest in working with museum collections. By establishing the Research Center and fostering collaborations
with other institutions, the HSM&L aims to inspire a new generation of Goya scholars in the United States and encourage further Goya initiatives as his bicentennial approaches.
Responsibilities
• Conduct scholarly research on Goya, including analyzing in-house works as well as across NY based collections.
• Organize checklists, databases, and files.
• Assist with technical analysis.
• Schedule and prepare materials and presentations for meetings.
• Correspond with external contacts and working closely with Head Curator for Prints & Photographs, Collections Management and Conservation, among other departments.
• Support drafting of research findings for publication.
• Coordinate and oversee the logistical organization of the symposium.
• Provide daily administrative support.
Job Requirements
• MA or Ph.D. Students in Art History, History, Spanish, Hispanic Studies, Museum Anthropology, Museum Studies, or related fields.
• Spanish language professional proficiency.
• Museum/gallery experience a plus.
• Strong research, writing and communication skills.
• Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Collaborative spirit.
Technology Skills
• Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• TMS a plus.
Compensation and Additional Information
• Stipend dependent on when the fellowship begins and regular weekly schedule.
• Stipend based on $25 per hour.
• Approximately 16-24 hours per week (onsite requirement).
• Students currently on F-1 visas are eligible to apply.

The Goya Research Center at the Hispanic Society Museum & Library is dedicated to preserving, promoting, and fostering research into the work of iconic Spanish artist Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828). The main objectives of the HSM&L’s Goya Research Center include: 1) Leading in-depth research on art history, provenance, and technical analysis; 2)
Increasing appreciation for Goya’s works through programs and exhibitions; 3) Producing publications to share findings and insights; and 4) Encouraging further scholarly research on the artist through a fellowship program and an annual symposium.
