Call for Futures Initiative Fellows – $30K Fellowship

Application Deadline: MARCH 28, 2025.

The Futures Initiative advocates for greater equity and innovation in higher education. Housed at and supported by the CUNY Graduate Center, our programs, both graduate and undergraduate, reach throughout the CUNY Community, striving to empower the next generation of intellectual leaders with bold, public, and engaged teaching and learning. The Futures Initiative is seeking applications from Graduate Center doctoral students in any field for Fall 2025-Spring 2026 fellowships.

Doctoral Fellows are at the heart of the Futures Initiative, and the work they do is designed to support their mission and the professional goals of every Fellow. Their past Fellows have gone on to do meaningful, inspiring work, both in the academy and beyond. Current FI fellows play a key role in selecting the new cohort of FI fellows.

Compensation

Compensation for the fellowship will be approximately $30,000 for the academic year. Fellows will be appointed to the Graduate Center payroll as Graduate Assistant Bs (GAB) at their own current rate and also receive a Provost’s Award paid through the Office of Financial Aid. The GAB title provides eligibility to purchase the low-cost NYSHIP health insurance as well as in-state tuition remission for fellows who are within their first 10 registered semesters of doctoral study.

FI Doctoral Fellows will be required to work a total of 450 non-teaching hours during the academic year (two 15-week semesters). This position comes with the possibility of reappointment and additional compensation for summer work. Please note that students may not hold this Fellowship and a GTF concurrently.

Applicants who have previously applied to FI without a Fellowship offer are welcome to re-apply.
