“Controversial Times: History in the Changing World Order” – CFP for our Graduate Student History Conference 2024 (submissions due 1/31/24)

The PhD Program in History at the CUNY Graduate Center is excited to invite proposals for individual papers or panels to be presented at the fourteenth annual departmental conference. The theme of the conference is: “Controversial Times: History in the Changing World Order.”

The conference provides a receptive environment in which students can gain experience presenting academic work, receive feedback from CUNY faculty, and meet and share ideas with their peers doing research in related fields. The conference is particularly designed for first and second year PhD students to gain experience in a conference environment.

We welcome submissions of completed papers, and of preliminary research findings or works-in-progress. This could include a master’s thesis, first- or second-year research projects, or an except from a dissertation chapter. It is not necessary to have a finished paper to apply!

To apply: submit a 250-word abstract as well as a brief bio introducing yourself (year, field, research interests). Submissions are due by January 31st, 2024. Please send proposals to Yuliya Barycheuskaya and Robert Cleary at GChistoryconference@gmail.com.

Upon acceptance, the abstract proposal will be included in the conference program, and accepted participants will submit a 7-10 page (double-spaced) paper three weeks before the conference for commentator review.

The conference will be held in-person on Friday, April 12th, 2024 at the Graduate Center, CUNY in Manhattan.

We look forward to your proposals.
