Cornell Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) Program Manager Position

They support campus-wide multidisciplinary initiatives and forge transnational collaborations. The Latin American and Caribbean Studies Program (LACS) is one of the regional programs in the Center. It is the focal point for research, teaching, and engagement in the region.

 

The Opportunity:

The Program Manager assists with strategies to advance the program’s mission of promoting research, teaching, and engagement in the region.  Working with the Director, in consultation with the Executive Director of the Einaudi Center and in compliance with applicable Einaudi Center/University policies, the administrator is responsible for the overall implementation and coordination of LACS’s administrative, academic, financial, and HR activities. As requested by the Director or Einaudi Center leadership, the program manager will liaise with numerous units across campus and represent the program/Center on campus committees and at various meetings.

 

What you will do:

  • Manage financial accounts and budgets including grants, gift, and contracts.
  • Administer academic programs (e.g., weekly lectures, student committee activities, faculty symposia, lectures, conferences, etc.).
  • Oversee LACS’s communications and management of website, listservs, and alumni and student database, in cooperation with Global Cornell’s communications staff.
  • Serve as human resources liaison for LACS, including managing visiting academic appointments and any related immigration visa processes, and staff and student appointments.
  • Supervise non-academic staff and students.
  • Anticipate and facilitate faculty, student, colleague, visitor, or public requests.
  • Organize and coordinate all fellowship and internal grant competitions and administer related awards and reporting.
  • Coordinate the review and selection of LACS-related Einaudi travel grants and undergraduate internships.
  • Coordinate with faculty and assist Einaudi outreach staff in administrative aspects of educational and community outreach at the regional and national level.
  • Collect data for reports, grants, or opportunities to ensure that LACS’s strategic goals are met.

 

 

What they need:

An organized team-player who is enthusiastic about managing a diverse and demanding portfolio of activities that support Latin American and Caribbean Studies. You must have a proven ability to simultaneously manage multiple areas, events, and deadlines, while working with faculty, students, and staff in an intercultural academic setting.

 

Additionally, you will have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with 3–5 years related managerial, supervisory and/or administrative experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skillscultivate and maintain an effective work environment.
  • Experience with grant and contract management and/or financial accounts management.
  • Working knowledge of database management and office technology, including word processing, ability to adapt to new technologies and platforms.

 

In addition to the above, they would prefer:

  • Master’s or PhD degree in a related field.
  • Ability to speak and read Spanish and/or Portuguese with medium to high proficiency.
