CUNY Academy for the Humanities and Sciences

The CUNY Academy for the Humanities and Sciences – which is the only CUNY-wide institute, dedicated to the support and promotion of CUNY faculty across the entire university system – is seeking one CUNY Academy Fellow for the 2025-26 academic year to assist CUNY Academy executive leadership.  This fellowship will provide doctoral students with the opportunity to build skills salient to program administration, faculty leadership, and the support and promotion of faculty.  The Fellow will assist with coordinating activities in three main areas:  Promotion of faculty research and publication, the support of faculty organized and led events, and support for the grant seeking process for faculty support.  This appointment requires the fellow to work a total of 210 non-teaching hours during the 2025-26 academic year, maximum 7 hours per week.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in coordinating faculty led events, including reserving rooms and coordinating space and technical setup, sending meeting invitations and reminder emails, and sharing meeting materials.
  • Attending Executive Board meetings (max one per semester).
  • Assisting with creating, updating, and organizing webpages, and updating social media.
  • Creating promotional material and event flyers.

 

The Fellow will liaise with faculty, students, and staff and are expected to maintain a professional demeanor in their communications, timely communication with various stakeholders, excellent organizational and follow-up skills, and strong attention to detail.  Proficiency in Microsoft 365 suite (including Teams), Doodle, Qualtrics, and others preferred, but not required.

 

Compensation and Benefits

  • The Special Projects fellowship requires fellows to work a total of 450 non-teaching hours during the academic year, approximately 15 hours per week.
  • Compensation for the fellowship will be a minimum of $29,475 for the academic year. 
  • Fellows will be appointed to the Graduate Center payroll as Graduate Assistant Bs (GAB) at their own current rate (the minimum GAB salary is currently $14.475 effective 9/1/2025) Note: if a candidate has prior Grad B service at a higher salary step, the appointment would be at the candidate’s current Grad B salary rate.
    • The GAB title provides eligibility to purchase the low-cost NYSHIP health insurance as well as in-state tuition remission for fellows who are within their first ten (10) registered semesters of doctoral study.
    • The Fellow will also receive a Provost’s Award from the Office of Fellowships and Financial Aid in the amount of $15,000 for the academic year.
    • Fellows who are past their ten registered semesters of doctoral study may be eligible to receive in-state tuition remission at the Level III rate as per the 2017-2023 PSC- CUNY contract (this benefit provides for this tuition remission for a maximum of four semesters past the student’s 10th registered semester).
