Digital Dissertations, Python, and R Working/User Groups
GC Digital Initiatives sponsors ongoing meetings for students and faculty to support the digital skills necessary for them to reach their research goals. Below is information about their newest group—the Digital Dissertation Accountability Group–as well as information about their Python and R user groups. Meetings are free, open to all community members, and do not require any pre-knowledge or experience. They encourage those interested to bring their questions, problems, and project ideas to share–or just come and listen to others.
Working on a digital dissertation or interested in doing one? They invite you to join their Digital Dissertations Accountability Group. The group will be meeting this Fall 2024 on a hybrid modality on Thursdays from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on 10/10 and 10/24, 11/07 and 11/21, and 12/05. Sign up using this form! You can also join their CUNY Academic Commons Group.
PUG (Python User Group) The next PUG meeting will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 2-3pm on Zoom. RSVP to receive the link on the day of the meeting. This week they will practice a little web scraping with Python by playing around with the reddit API. They’ll work through the process of extracting info from the site step-by-step together.
RUG (R User Group) The first R user group meeting is going to be held today (Tuesday, Oct. 22nd) from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Feel free to bring any project ideas or anything you want to learn about R to the meeting, so that we can figure out what to do for the following meetings! To join the meeting, make sure to sign up for the R User Group on the CUNY Academic Commons at https://cuny.is/rug. The Zoom link can be found in the forum posts.
