Fall 2023 CUNY REEES Workshops

The CUNY REEES Workshop is back for the Fall 2023 semester! They meet on select Fridays to discuss new research in Russian, Eastern European and Eurasian Studies:

 

September 29, 12:30 pm – Book talk with Megan Buskey, author of Ukraine Is Not Dead Yet: A Family Story of Exile and Returnwhich chronicles her family’s experience in Ukraine during and after World War II and their emigration to Cleveland from the Soviet Union during the Brezhnev era. Brigid O’Keeffe (Brooklyn College, CUNY), will serve as a discussant. This will be a hybrid event at the CUNY Graduate Center (room 5114, History Program), and online via Zoom.

 

October 13, 2:00 pm – Kenneth Yin (LaGuardia Community College, CUNY) discusses his research on the Dungan literature and culture of Central Asia via Zoom.

 

October 27, 12:30pm – Yana Prymachenko (Princeton University and Institute of History of Ukraine, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) shares a new comparative analysis of Soviet and Russian memory culture of the “Great Victory” via Zoom.

 

November 17, 12:30pm  – Jane Sugarman (Graduate Center, CUNY) presents new research on musical activism in post-war Kosova via Zoom.

 

December 8, 12:30 pm  – Nicholas Boston (Lehman College, CUNY) presents new research on “The Amorous Migrant: Polish Gay Men in the United Kingdom, 2004-2020“. This will be held jointly with the Gender and Transformation in CEEE workshop, held both online via Zoom and in person at the CUNY Graduate Center (room 5203, Ralph Bunche Institute), with reception to follow.

CUNY REEES will pre-circulate unpublished papers so that they can be read in advance, leading to a fruitful discussion with the authors.
