Fellowship from Center for Jewish Studies for History ABDs
2025-2026 Center for Jewish History Fellowship Application
Due by 5 PM on March 24.
The Center for Jewish Studies at the CUNY Graduate Center sponsors a joint fellowship with the Center for Jewish History (15 West 16th street), granting $5000 to a GC PhD candidate (ABD) for participation in the proceedings of the Institute for Advanced Jewish Research at the Center for Jewish History. The fellowships will support original research using the collections of the CJH’s five partners — American Jewish Historical Society, American Sephardi Federation, Leo Baeck Institute, Yeshiva University Museum, and YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. To be approved for funding, it is required that your project uses the CJH library and archives.
Fellows are encouraged to spend at least three days per week using archival and library resources. During the Fall semester, recipients are expected to participate in the CJH fellowship seminar program and to attend the meetings of the fellowship program cohort. They are encouraged, but not required, to participate and attend in the Spring. Fellows may be invited to present a pre-circulated paper to be discussed at one of those meetings.
Requirements:
Research proposal describing your project, detailing how your research will involve the libraries or archives at CJH (max 1000 words).
A letter of recommendation from your advisor
Unofficial GC Graduate Transcript
Curriculum Vitae (3 pages max)
Please submit all application materials electronically as one continuous PDF document with the fellowship mentioned in the subject heading and your last name to gccenterjewishstudies@gmail.com by March 24 at 5pm.
