Jan. 15 The CES at Harvard University Visiting Scholars Program

Application Deadline: January 15, 2015

Deadline for Recommendation Letters: January 22, 2015
This program offers post-doctoral social scientists and historians the opportunity to spend up to one year at Harvard University for independent research on Europe or transatlantic relations. Successful candidates will benefit from the Center’s dynamic program on Europe and gain access to Harvard University’s intellectually stimulating environment and extensive library resources.

About the Center
The Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES) at Harvard University was founded in 1969 at Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences to promote understanding of Europe in the United States and to facilitate the training of new generations of social scientists on Europe.

Program Overview
During the program, Visiting Scholars at the Center for European Studies have the opportunity to:

  • present their work-in-progress in a weekly seminar and receive feedback from colleagues in their field;
  • participate in the Center’s full program of talks, study group sessions, and conferences;
  • expand their research by accessing Harvard University’s resources.

Requirements
Visiting Scholars are admitted on a competitive basis for a period of at least three months and up to one year during the 2015-2016 academic year. Applicants must have a PhD and can range from postdoctoral fellows to senior scholars. The Center considers candidates from a wide range of disciplinary perspectives, including economics, history, political science, and sociology. Since the Center does not fund visitors, candidates must provide their own source of funding such as sabbatical salary or external grants.

Candidates may not have concurrent appointments; there are no teaching requirements for this program, and scholars are expected to be free from teaching obligations during their stay at CES.
