LaGuardia and Wagner Archives seeks Part-time Education Assistant

Working with the Education Staff at the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives, the Education Assistant will
assist in researching for the annual history calendar. This includes finding photos and retaining usage rights,
researching important dates along a theme, composing historical blurbs for monthly themes, and meeting
regularly with the team to discuss design and layout. The Education Assistant will also help with special
projects run by full-time staff. The projects involve assisting students with research requests, coordinating
meetings and events, answering faculty questions, and collecting student-generated materials and release
forms for the archives. Education Assistant will collaborate with different members of the archives staff and
must be organized, approachable, and communicate clearly.
The Education Assistant will also help lead orientation workshops with visiting classes. These classes
introduce students to primary source research, online research, and close readings of primary documents.
The duties of this position will be a mix of research, administration, and teaching.
Minimum Qualifications
Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate degree in history or related field preferred. Experience participating in Workshops, and desire to
work with non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of New York City history
preferred. Applicant should be eager to become familiar with our collections and have the ability to discern
what stories and documents may pique student interest. Must have excellent research, writing, and
copyediting skills and the ability to collaborate and communicate clearly with a team. The ability to meet
strict deadlines is highly necessary since we work within semesters with students who graduate throughout
the year.
