Manhattan College (Riverdale, Bronx, NY) seeks adjuncts
The History Department seeks adjuncts for two sets of two in-person sections of History 150: “Roots: History” for Fall 2023. Courses start August 28 and meet on Mondays and Thursdays. Each section is capped at 22 students. Rate is at least $4300 a course / $8600 for the semester.
History 150 is a thematically organized introductory history survey that emphasizes global awareness, historical breadth, and social justice perspectives. Content can not be rooted in a single region or solely in the “West”; content cannot be rooted in a single historical period, but must stretch over at least two broad historical periods and emphasize change over time; otherwise geographical, chronological, and thematic focus is open, with chair approval.
Course could be taught as a more traditional “Europe and the World” or could be thematic around the history of food, the environment, public health, revolutionary movements, ideas of freedom, etc.
Course assignments for students will include at least two papers with a total combined minimum of 3600 words, based on the analysis of primary sources; use of a textbook is also recommended. There will be at least one midterm and a final.
