PhD Program in History travel awards

Despite all the uncertainty,  the PhD Program in History is proud to announce our two travel awards:

1)      The Paul Naish Memorial Travel and Research Award

Open to students of any level. The program can offer partial reimbursement of research/conference related expenses you have already incurred (between March 2019 – March 2020).  Please send a short description of the conference you participated in (not just attended) or the research you conducted, and an itemized explanation of your expenses, including a total amount.  Depending on fund availability, we hope to also offer partial funding for a research trip or conference that you plan to undertake (between March 2020 – May 2021). Please send a detailed rationale along with an estimate of expenses. Please also ask your advisor to write an email of support for the trip.

2)      The John M. Cammett Travel Award

A travel grant of $2,500 will be made to an outstanding Level III graduate student in modern Italian history or any other subfield of modern European history for the purpose of carrying out archival research for the dissertation.  The prize honors Prof. John M. Cammett (1927-2008) of John Jay College and the Graduate Center, whose historical passions included the work and thought of Antonio Gramsci, and more generally, the modern social and political history of Europe.  Applicants must submit a cover letter, the dissertation proposal, and a letter of recommendation from the advisor.

REMINDER: If you are planning international travel you MUST comply with the Graduate Center’s requirements: https://www.gc.cuny.edu/Prospective-Current-Students/Current-Students/International-Travel-Requirements-for-Current-Students

Please email everything to me by April 20th. Results will be announced via email in mid-May. These awards are for Fall 2020, so you must be registered for the Fall semester by May 15th. (Registration begins April 28th.)

Thank you!
