Private suite available in huge Greenpoint garden apartment (Sept or Oct 1)

I’m looking for a housemate to share my very large apartment in greenpoint, brooklyn, starting september or october 1. You would have your own private unfurnished 380sf suite (almost a separate apt!) with a private entrance, private bathroom, walk-in closet, and two main rooms (i.e., a small bedroom and your own small-ish living room or a bedroom and an office). The suite is at the front of the building on the first floor, so the windows face the street (a reasonably quiet residential one). We would share the large cook-friendly kitchen, the 300sf main living room, possibly the large basement room, and the 1000sf established garden with roses, herbs, raspberries, blueberries, a plum tree, etc. The apt has central a/c.

The rent for the suite is open to discussion based on various factors, but the baseline would be around $1400 plus utilities, more if you are a couple and/or want full or partial rights to the basement room.

If you frequent the graduate center or anywhere else in the 34th st or wall st areas, the east river ferry (4 blocks away) is the best commute in town (pic attached of my commute home). The commute to upper midtown (42nd st) is also nice (15min walk or 1-stop bus ride to the 7 train, 25-30 min. total).

To most other manhattan locales is less spectacular, but generally 35-45 minutes door-to-door via bus, foot, or the G train (a block away) to the 7/L/M/E/etc.

The apt is half a block from manhattan avenue with plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, etc., and a 15min walk to mccarren park and williamsburg.

This part of greenpoint is pretty mixed but still largely polish, with a major dose of hipster and a moderate dose of queer. (I’d count among the latter, perhaps a tad behind on the former.) I’ve been in the apt for 15 years.

I finished the history phd program at the gc in 2012 and am currently the associate editor of the International Journal of Middle East Studies (based at the gc). I work a lot at home.

I have an ancient cat and a medium-size short-haired dog. Additional 4-legged housemates could be discussed.
