A research assistant is sought with interests in cultural history of the U.S. during the early Republic, 1800-1840. The researcher will assist in the completion of a book ms. on democracy, knowledge and the creation of publics in early nineteenth century America. Tasks include: reading the ms., checking accuracy of references contained in the ms., doing a literature review of the scholarly field from the mid-1990s until present and suggesting works to consult and possibly cite in the ms., suggestions of how to reframe the ms. in light of changes in the field, and periodic meetings with the editors to give progress reports.
