Job Description:

The American Studies Department at SUNY Old Westbury regularly seeks to hire adjunct instructors to teach United States history courses. The American Studies Department offers an interdisciplinary B.A. degree in American Studies, B.A. degree in Media and Communications, and B.A. degree in Black Studies. These courses meet major elective requirements and general education requirements.

Candidates for adjunct positions should have a record of high-quality teaching in support of the College Mission.

SUNY Old Westbury is seeking applicants who can teach mainly lower-division United States history courses that are part of Old Westbury’s Liberal Education Curriculum, required for all students. Below is a list of potential courses:

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree History, American Studies, Black Studies, Media Studies, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or ABD in History, American Studies, Black Studies, Media Studies, or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching at the college level.
  • Experience teaching or mentoring an ethnically diverse, working student population.
