The Latinx and Latin American Students Association (AELLA) Needs Your Support
The Latinx and Latin American Students Association (AELLA) would like to share some information on our activities, services and upcoming events. Recognizing a shared experience and legacy of social justice struggles across the Americas, over the last 5 years we have organized many activities, which combined academic analysis and theory building with public presentations in support of social justice movements in New York City and Latin America.
At the same time we have worked to develop student panels and presentations to advocate for and bring visibility to the amazing research being done by our Latinx and Latin American students at the GC.
Right now we are working on an inter-disciplinary symposium in which academics from a variety of disciplines, artists, and activists from the US, Latin America, Africa, and Asia will come together to discuss the meaning and contours of Displacement.
All in all, our aim is to build a community of support for our Latinx and Latin American students. This goes from providing advice in navigating graduate life, facilitating venues that focus on issues relevant to our constituency, or simply pouring a hot cup of coffee on a long study night. So come share your stories, projects and dreams with us –we got excellent coffee, tea, mate, snacks and lots of solidarity always at hand.
Now, to continue these efforts, we need your support! We are asking you to please:
1.-Sign the DCS Association Roster for this semester (Fall 2016)
This will secure that our status is active and that we keep our office space. Click on the link http://cunydsc.org/works/organizations/aella-latino-and-latin-american-students-association and hit “Join.” Add your name and phone number before pressing submit. Make sure it says Fall 2016. This will take you 2 minutes but will make a great difference for our community.
2.-Join our mailing list
No matter how you self-identify (if Latinx/Latin American or not), if you are interested in the work that we do, send us an email to aella.gradcenter@gmail.com with the subject line: Add me to your mailing list: with your first and last name. We use this list to remind members to sign the rosters, and to announce events and job opportunities.

Send us an email to set up a time to meet at our office so we hear from you, your needs as a student, your academic interests and which activities you would like to see us organize.
4.-Become an active member of AELLA
Interested in organizing a panel? Would you like us to organize a panel to discuss your current research? Are you interested in becoming co-Chair of our organization? Are you feeling isolated or frustrated and need someone to talk to? We are here for you!
To end, we would like to remind you of this very important activity taking place at the GC on Tuesday Nov 8.
