Two NYS Policy Fellowships for Graduate Students–Info Sessions Soon

New York State Excelsior Service Fellowship Program Information Session 

​Friday, March 12, 12:30-1:30 p.m.

The New York State Excelsior Service Fellowship Program is a funded two-year fellowship  offering talented recent graduates of graduate, law, and advanced degree programs hands  on training and experience in New York State government. Excelsior Fellows work full time at host executive-branch agencies and authorities, advancing the operational aspects of large policy initiatives. Fellow placements include Empire State Development Corporation,

Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs, Department of Environmental Conservation, the Port Authority of NY/NJ, and the Office of Children and Family Services. Fellows also have the opportunity to participate in a Professional Development program focusing on leadership development and the fundamentals of New York State government. The program will be administered by the participating partner schools. Interested applicants should submit the following materials to their school’s designated contact: resume, transcript, 2 letters of recommendation (at least one of which should be academic in nature), and a personal statement/cover letter. The personal statement should outline the candidate’s interest in the Excelsior Service Fellowship and their commitment public service (no more than 750 words). Partner schools will forward their nominations to the Center for Recruitment and Public Service by April 2, 2021. Nominees will be interviewed for placement by the Center for Recruitment and Public Service, and will be matched with a placement at a State Agency or Authority. Those Fellows who are matched will be notified of their acceptance by the second week of May.

NYS Senate Legislative Fellowships Information Session

Join us for an information session with Nicholas Parrella, Director, NYS Senate Office of Student Programs, who will provide an overview of the NYS Senate Legislative Fellowships. https://www.nysenate.gov/newsroom/articles/2021/new-york-senate-graduate-fellowships

This event is hosted by the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College and is open to all CUNY graduate-level students (Master’s/PhD).

Applicants must have completed graduate studies prior to the beginning of the fellowship (September 2021). Fellows work full-time and are expected to function as a regular staff member. They receive a stipend in addition to employee benefits. Applications are due in April 2021. The length of the fellowship is September 2021 to June 2022. Come to the information session to learn in depth about this program.

Legislative Fellows are assigned to a Senate member. Duties vary and depend on the needs of the member. Legislative Fellows generally perform in-depth policy research, meet with stakeholders, and attend legislative session. Applicants may also request placement in Majority Counsel/Program Services, Majority Press Office, or the Senate Finance Committee. These memorial fellowships are awarded to applicants who demonstrate the unique qualifications and abilities required of each position. All applicants are encouraged to apply for both a Legislative Fellowship, and a Memorial Fellowship of interest.

– Richard A. Wiebe Public Service Fellowship

– James L. Biggane Fellowship in Finance
