Join the Colombian Studies Group (el CSG) for a double-feature film screening on April 24, 2026, from 5:00pm – 7:00pm at the CUNY Graduate Center, room 9702! 

They will show two Colombian made films, one full length and one short, that originally debuted at the 2025 Cali Film Festival: La Dama de las Llamadas and No Controles.

Film Title: La Dama de Las Llamadas (Dir. David Chávez, 89min, 2025).

Film Description: Carlos, in his thirties, goes to live in a small studio apartment belonging to his estranged father following an economic and existential crisis. Here, he finds an old landline phone in which he begins to receive calls from a mysterious woman with whom he develops a friendship. With the help of his virtual friend, Carlos  begins a journey of self-discovery and maturity in which he must confront his inner demons.

Film Title:No Controles (Dir. Mercedes Oviedo, 16min, 2025)

Film Description:  Mary lives at home with her mother, grandmother, and older sister, Lina. She is close to family, but her family’s comments about her physical appearance make Mary feel insecure about her body and self-image. One day, Mary’s sixth-grade teacher assigns a self-portrait as homework, leading Mary down a path of self-realization. After receiving her first “woman to woman” conversation from her mother, Mary decides to confront her insecurities and shaves. However, when Lina decides to shave her head, Mary confronts her own painful memories and finds a way to reconcile her own insecurities and relationship with her sister. In the end, Mary finds the courage to finish her self-portrait, demonstrating that accepting oneself is a complex and courageous process.
