1/17- Vera Institute of Justice Information Session for Fellowships

In partnership with the CUNY Graduate Center and John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the Vera Institute of Justice offers two fellowship opportunities to CUNY doctoral candidates with primary research interests in criminal or immigration justice. Fellowship recipients will work with one of Vera’s initiatives on research relating to a specific project including, but not limited to research design, data collection, analysis, fieldwork, report writing, stakeholder engagement, and dissemination. Join them on January 17th to learn more about the Vera Institute of Justice, the research department, and opportunities that exist in the institute.

The use of data to inform policy and drive change is at the core of Vera’s approach to reform. Researchers based in each of Vera’s thematic centers and programs use a range of methods and approaches to address some of the most pressing justice issues of our time. While the topics addressed by their research are wide-ranging, the common thread that runs through all of this work is a drive to use data to understand and address real-world problems that perpetuate disparity and limit the ability of vulnerable groups to access justice.

Summer Fellowship

This fellowship opportunity offered by Vera and the CUNY Graduate Center is open to all Graduate Center Ph.D. students with primary research interests in criminal, legal, or immigration justice and the work of the Vera Institute. Fellowship recipients will receive $4,000 for 120 hours in residence over the summer of 2023.

Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in Applied Justice Research (AJR)

The AJR fellowship is open to students enrolled in Ph.D. programs across the CUNY network. Fellows will be embedded in a Vera research team for the 2023-24 academic year. They will participate in applied research, and potentially test new ideas and research approaches to Vera’s existing work. Paid fellowship recipients will be based at Vera’s New York offices between early September and late May.
