Professor Roger Sedarat, Queen’s College, CUNY, will discuss his new book:
Emerson in Iran: The American Appropriation of Persian Poetry
Roger Sedarat is an Iranian-American scholar, translator, and poet. Emerson in Iran: the American Appropriation of Persian Poetry, explores how Sufi mysticism and Persian verse informs the figural origins of the American Renaissance.
His previously published essays include “Middle Eastern-American Literature: A Contemporary Turn in Emerson Studies” in A Power to Translate the World: New Essays on Emerson and International Culture (2015) and “Of Fire and Goblins: Metaphorical Displacements in Rihani’s The Book of Khalid” (2012).
