Funding opportunities from the George Mason University’s Institute for Humane Studies

As teaching moves online and faculty begin to spend time away from the classroom, The Institute for Humane Studies (IHS) has started offering summer funding through its Discourse Initiative Research Grants and encouraging unique proposals for Hayek Fund applications that seek to ensure effective teaching and research during uncertain times.

Discourse Initiative Research Grants | Deadline: April 30
Faculty can receive $10,000-$25,000 in summer funding for research related to the liberal tradition. Topics include but are not limited to critiques of liberalism, tensions between liberty and equality, protections for minority rights, and moral obligations within the liberal order.

Hayek Fund for Scholars [theihs.org] | Applications accepted on a rolling basis
Faculty can receive $100-$5,000 through the Hayek Fund for Scholars. The Fund can be used to pay for virtual research assistants, data sets, online resources, expenses related to remote/online teaching and scholarly collaboration incurred as a result of the COVID-19 response, and more. We particularly welcome unique proposals to ensure effective teaching during these trying times.
