2/6- “Sounds of Music”
SOUNDS OF MUSIC
ABOUT
Sounds of Music is an informal and flexible event designed to encourage participants to share their love of music through performance, discussion, and listening. While the nature of the program is recreational, it is inspired by the music therapy programs of Dr. Concetta Tomaino. These operate according to principles fundamental to her therapeutic approach: acknowledging the agency of every individual; providing opportunities for participation; encouraging connections to musical memories, and creating opportunities for friendly and inclusive social interactions.
Jeremy Deliotte, an experienced moderator, guides the activity. It may include individual performances, a treasured recording presented for group listening and discussion, or the introduction of a unique musical genre. Music videos, recordings, and karaoke backgrounds available on the internet may be implemented. Participants are invited to bring their instruments. Dr. Tomaino, a distinguished music therapist and author of the recently published, Music Has Power, will participate via Zoom.
