3/27- GC Alumni Panel: Navigating the Academy as BIPOC Students and Teachers

This year, the Teaching and Learning Center has launched a pilot program to offer mentoring support for BIPOC Graduate Teaching Fellows. This initiative builds upon and responds to discussions the TLC has organized with BIPOC-identified graduate student teachers who have repeatedly expressed desire for improved mentorship around teaching and navigating the academy within and beyond their programs.

As part of the initiative, TLC is hosting a panel on Zoom featuring three Graduate Center alumni: Carla J. Dubose-Simons (History), Chy Sprauve (English/Composition Rhetoric), and Robert Robinson (Urban Education). They will be reflecting upon their academic trajectories, their mentorship and support experiences as BIPOC scholars, and how they have navigated the hidden curriculum of the academy.

The panel will be facilitated by two of this year’s mentors, Oscar Aponte (PhD candidate in History) and Mariatere Tapias (PhD candidate in Urban Education). Special thanks to Cristine Khan (Sociology) and Chandni Tariq (History) for leading the initiative and organizing this event.

Wednesday, March 27th from 3:30-4:30pm, on Zoom
