3/7 – GCDI Digital Dissertations Event

We have noticed increasing interest among doctoral students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences in producing digital dissertations. We often field questions ranging from “What is a digital dissertation?” to “How do you evaluate digital dissertations?” For this reason, GC Digital Initiatives and the GC Digital Fellows would like to host a series of conversations on the topic of digital dissertations to help students and faculty consider the possibilities and challenges of producing digital scholarship that leads to the culmination of the doctoral degree.

For our first event, we invite faculty, students, and staff to join us in registering for the following virtual event next Monday, March 7, 2022 hosted by Syracuse University at 2 PM EST. Register here. The event will feature work on digital dissertations assembled as part of a grant Syracuse received from the National Endowment for the Humanities in collaboration with Katina Rogers, formerly of the Futures Initiative. Presentations by students (including Jesse Merandy, a GC alum) who completed digital dissertations and their advisors (including Matt Gold) and will cover topics such as various formats, examples, planning, evaluation, and resources. Registration for the event can be found on the Next-Generation Dissertations website.

Directly following the event from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM on March 7th, GC Digital Initiatives and the GC Digital Fellows hold a virtual discussion for GC students and faculty. We will use this time to field questions, to share information, and to gather requests for resources from those who might be interested in exploring what doing a digital dissertation can look like on our campus. We’ll use this conversation to develop future programming as well as develop resources for students and faculty. Please register here to participate.

We look forward to seeing you at the Next-Generation Dissertations event, and at the GCDI open forum to follow.

With apologies for the very late notice,
