ALERT: CUNY set to curtail free speech and assembly

Dear colleagues,

You may have heard that the Board of Trustees is set to vote on a proposed policy on ‘Freedom of Expression and Expressive Conduct’ at its June 27th meeting. This is the same policy on ‘expressive conduct’ that was overwhelmingly opposed and defeated by a large coalition of CUNY students and faculty in 2013. The DSC’s Executive Committee has released a statement [cunydsc.org]opposing this, since we believe that it will curtail the rights to free speech and assembly for CUNY faculty and students.

Please help us in spreading the word about this. We encourage you to read the proposed policy, make public statements, reach out to the media or other outside entities, and mobilize your constituents to attend the Board of Trustees public hearing on June 20th (more info here).

In solidarity,

Hamad Sindhi
