Are you interested in socially conscious teaching practices?
Are you interested in creative assignments to facilitate inclusivity, diversity and social awareness in your classroom?
Is there an assignment that you have designed that you would like to share with others?
Join the Teaching and Learning Center for a zine meet up on Wednesday April 11th (this day follows a Friday on the CUNY calendar). At the meet up we will curate a collection of assignments into a zine, to be distributed via the TLC’s web site.
Zines are handmade, self-published pamphlets that include a wide variety of content. They have been prominent within communities interested in alternative forms of scholarship and publishing.
This event will conclude the Socially Conscious Pedagogy Educator series this year, which included the Educator Positionality Workshop, Socially Conscious Praxis Workshop, and Resisting the Canon Panel. In addition to co-creating a teaching zine, we will critically assess the methodology of putting together a zine and explore its potential for use in a variety of classes.
If you’re interested in participating, please email a brief (about 200 words) description of an assignment or activity that you would like to include in the zine to sakina.cnr@gmail.com before April 6th. This description will help us prepare to coordinate and curate the assignments into the zine, which will be collectively workshopped during the meet up.
The event runs from 10am to 1pm, and breakfast will be included. The workshop with by co-facilitated by TLC Fellow Sakina Laksimi-Morrow and Elvis Bakaitis, reference librarian and experienced zine maker.
