April Disability Awareness Month Workshops

April is CUNY Disability Awareness Month, and The Graduate Center’s Office of Compliance and Diversity​ is pleased to offer a series of workshops on topics that are important to our community. We invite Graduate School and University Center students, faculty, and staff to participate in these interactive programs. 

 

Monday, April 12, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Disability Etiquette and Awareness
Participants will receive an introductory presentation on the disability community from members of NYC Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities. Participants will gain an understanding of disability concepts and learn best practices for language and how to assist individuals with disabilities. Each disability will be discussed in specificity with an overview of relevant accommodations for the workplace and home.

Friday, April 16, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Emergency Preparedness Event for Employees and Students with Disabilities

Members of the NYC Emergency Management agency will address important information such as developing a support network, gathering supplies, and how to stay informed for emergencies. All participants will have the opportunity to download or order the My Emergency Plan booklet to write their own individualized emergency plans.

Reasonable Accommodations for Employees

This workshop will cover reasonable accommodation requests for employees with disabilities and topics such as general work-related accommodations and reasonable accommodations and COVID-19.
