Call for Applications: Black, Race and Ethnic Studies Doctoral Fellowship

The CUNY Black, Race and Ethnic Studies Initiative Council is looking for Level-III Ph.D. students to be part of an inaugural cohort of BRES Doctoral Fellows.  Students chosen as fellows will participate in a series of BRES programming and will be compensated with a stipend of $4,000 at the end of spring 2023. They will also have the opportunity to present their research at the BRES Seminar Series during AY 2023-2024.

The History program can nominate two students as prospective BRES Doctoral Fellows.  The eligibility criteria are as follows:

  1. Ph.D. candidate (Level III) from any Humanities or Social Sciences discipline.
  2. Must be enrolled in the Spring 2023 and Fall 2023 semesters.
  3. Preference may be given to students who have not previously received BRESI funding.
  4. Work on one of the following BRES-related themes:

a. Race, gender, sexuality, and intersectionality
b. Race, ethnicity, and migration studies
c. Race, diasporas, and transnationalism
d. Race, inequality, and political economy
e. Race, indigeneity, and decolonial studies
f. Race, representation, and cultural studies

 

If you wish to be considered for nomination, please send your curriculum vitae (in PDF) and a two-page narrative of the dissertation project (in a second PDF) to Marilyn Weber (mweber@gc.cuny.edu) no later than midnight on Monday, January 23, 2023.  The History program will select two prospective Doctoral Fellow nominees and forward their names and relevant materials to the BRESI Council, which will make the selections.  Awards will be announced on March 1.
