CityTech seeks adjuncts – Western Civilization and US History to 1877
New York City College of Technology (CityTech) of the City University of New York is seeking to hire adjuncts to teach the following courses/sections fall 2015:
*HIS 1102 History of Western Civilization Mondays & Wednesdays 230-345pm
This course begins with developments in the early modern era of the West and the historical implications of the Renaissance and Reformation. Attention is given to the religious wars, the Counter- Reformation and the rise of the nation-state. The Scientific Revolution, European colonization of the New World, the Enlightenment and the political and intellectual climate of the 18th century will be discussed along with the American and French Revolutions. The Industrial Revolution and its economic, political, social and technological impact will also be covered. The course concludes with the political and social changes in post-Napoleonic Europe.
*HIS 1110 US History to 1877 Tuesdays & Thursdays 1130am-245pm
A survey of significant developments in American history from colonization through the Civil War. Topics covered include the collision of cultures in the New World and the founding of English colonies, colonial cultures and politics, the rise of slavery, the causes and consequences of the American Revolution, the Republican ideal and the establishment of the U.S. Constitution, westward expansion and frontier life, sectional conflict, and the Civil War. The course ends with an examination of Reconstruction.
An advanced degree (e.g., Masters) is required.
