CLACLS presents: May Sumak: Quichwa Film Showcase

A FREE series featuring three days of Quechua/Kichwa film screenings and discussions throughout New York City and New Jersey. The showcase is a celebration of Indigenous and community filmmaking in the Quechua languages spoken throughout the Andes and by immigrants in the United States.

Films screened will vary from traditional early works to more modern interpretations, demonstrating the range of diversity in Quechua/Kichwa filmmaking. Screening will be followed  by discussions and Q & A with filmmakers themselves.

 

This event is FREE and open to the public. DAY 2: “WARMIKUNA: WOMEN IN QUICHWA FILMMAKING”

Location: Guttenberg Arts Center (6903 Jackson St. Guttenberg, NJ 07093)
Time: 7:30-10:30PM
(Easiest way to arrive from NYC is via NJ Transit Bus No. 159 from NY Port Authority Bus Terminal. 20 min bus ride.)

Films screened will center on indigenous women’s experiences and perspectives both in front of and behind the camera.

DAY 3: “NEW YORK PREMIERE OF ‘KILLA'” and Q&A WITH DIRECTOR ALBERTO MUENALA
Date: Sunday, June 17, 2018
Location: King Juan Carlos I of Spain Center (53 Washington Square S, New York, NY 10012)
Time: 1-4PM

Killa is the first feature-length film entirely in Kichwa made by and for Kichwa peoples. This highly anticipated movie has been featured in Indian Country Today, Telesur, Remezcla and more.

May Sumak: Muestra de Cine Quichwa es una serie de eventos (GRATIS) que ofrece tres días de proyecciones de películas Quechua/Kichwa en la Ciudad de Nueva York y Nueva Jersey.
