Conference Seeking Researchers Studying Crown Heights, Brooklyn

Rebekah Breitzer from CUNY Graduate Center and Susan Saegert from Environmental Psych and HERG (Housing Environments Research Group, a sub-group of Center for Human Environments) are organizing a conference this spring for both researchers studying Crown Heights and the tenants currently living in the neighborhood.

The idea behind the conference is bring together the tenants and researchers so researchers can hear what kind of work and information would be helpful for the tenants in their attempt to organize for fair and affordable housing and for researchers to make contacts in the community and present their own work. At the end of the conference, there will have a mapping demonstration that will show how GIS and mapping can be used in community organizing and to get feedback from the community on how maps could help them in their organizing efforts.

We are hoping to find as many Crown Heights researchers (and interested Crown Heights tenants) as possible in and outside of CUNY. It’s a great opportunity for other Crown Heights researchers to collaborate, network, and organize and we can use all the help we can get to ensure we have a successful event.
