February 17 The Teaching and Learning Center: Creative Assignment Design Workshop

Please join TLC (The Teaching and Learning Center at The Graduate Center, CUNY) staff for a Creative Assignment Design Workshop next Wednesday, February 17th, 1-3pm, in Room 7209 of the Graduate Center. In this workshop we’ll explore ways to design assignments that make use of NYC-area resources such as museums, archives, street intersections or parks, and discuss how to give students opportunities to gain disciplinary knowledge and skills through hands-on work on a specific problem or question. We’ll think about ways to scaffold problem-based learning assignments (PBL), share tips on how to write effective assignments, and look at examples of PBL assignments from across the disciplines. We’ll work together to build a variety of assignment ideas that can take students outside of the classroom and textbook. Please bring with you examples of PBL assignments that have worked well in the past or that you want to workshop, as well as any questions you may have about assignment design.
