Graduate Teaching Assistant for Summer and Fall 2023 open at CCNY

Professor Cristina Jiménez Moreta, Distinguished Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology and Interdisciplinary Programs at the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership at The City College of New York, seeks a Graduate Teaching Assistant for Summer and Fall 2023. The position is available immediately, beginning in July 2023, and it will extend through the fall semester. We expect the position will consist of 10-15 hours/week. Pay is $22/hour.

 

The person hired will work with Professor Jiménez Moreta on the summer development and fall delivery of two newly-designed courses:

 

  • ANTH 29607 – Undocumented, Unafraid, Unashamed: The Power of the Immigrant Youth Movement – an undergraduate course to be taught in the Department of Anthropology and Interdisciplinary Programs.

 

  • PSM B1600 Strategic Management of Public Organizations – a Master’s level course to be taught in Master’s in Public Administration Program.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES :

 

  • Assist the course instructor with research for syllabi development during the summer;
  • Attend all lectures in the fall (75 minutes, twice weekly, in-person/online Mon/Wed 2 -3:15pm &  MPA M/W 5:15 – 7:15pm);
  • Assist in preparing lecture course materials & presentations;
  • Assist the course instructor with setting up course materials and readings online for students to access;
  • Assist the course instructor with grade submission & grading some assignments;
  • Hold weekly office hours;
  • Assist the course instructor with a variety of research assignments, and related tasks.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • A demonstrated interest in human rights, social justice, and migration issues;
  • Preference for a graduate student enrolled in a degree program in the social sciences; advanced undergraduates might be considered.
  • Strong research, writing and communication skills;
  • Knowledge on navigating CUNY online platforms and systems.
