Historic Germantown (Philadelphia) seeks Executive Director

Historic Germantown is a consortium of 16 extraordinary historic houses, destinations, and museums in Northwest Philadelphia that have joined
together to protect, preserve, and share some of Philadelphia’s prized historical assets.

Historic Germantown, located just minutes from Center City, is where one of Philadelphia’s Revolutionary War Battles was fought; where the first-ever American protest against slavery was written; and where one of the few remaining houses on the Underground Railroad still stands; where the first paper was manufactured in North America.

Historic Germantown will be a leader in enhancing the economic and cultural development of our community through the collective voice of its member
sites.

MISSION
Historic Germantown is a partnership organization serving historic sites in Philadelphia’s Old German Township that works collaboratively to preserve
its extraordinary historic assets, increase access, interpret them to the public and raise their visibility.
Primary Responsibilities

Building an effective fund raising structure and capability;

Developing creative programs supporting the consortium’s mission and vision;

Building name recognition and influence of the consortium throughout the
region;

Initiating and executing collaborative efforts between & amongst member
sites.

Serving as a visible, knowledgeable, and passionate spokesperson for HG
member sites and the diverse German Township which includes Germantown,
Mount Airy and Chestnut Hill;

Managing a small staff, a building, and overseeing a collection, library and
archives;

Providing strategic, operational and financial leadership;

Continuing to build Historic Germantown membership rolls.
Preferred Background and Education

Enthusiasm and energy to guide a non-profit organization with a unique
mandate toward fulfilling its potential;

Familiarity with the diverse northwest Philadelphia community;

Recent successful experience with fund raising and knowledge of regional and
national philanthropic resources;

Experience working in complex, multi-institutional partnerships and/or
collaborative environments;

Demonstrated creative program development experience;

Sensitivity to historic preservation and collections;

Advanced degree preferred.  Salary commensurate with experience.
