Reserves for the Fall Semester

Teaching faculty should use this form to request books that they would like placed on reserve if they haven’t already: GC Library Course Reserve Request Form (google.com)

 

IT Support

IT will be providing walk-up IT support at the library by the Print Release Station on the second floor from 8/26-8/29 and 9/2-9/5, from 10 am – 4pm.

Dissertation Office Drop-in Hours

Tuesday 8/26, 9/2, 9/9 and Thursday 8/28, 9/4, 9/11, 2:00pm-4:00pm

Have a last-minute concern about depositing your dissertation or thesis? The library’s Dissertation Office dedicates time for drop-in Zoom consultations most Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-4pm.

 

Scholarly Publishing Drop-In Hour

Thursday 8/28, 9/11, and 9/25, 4:00pm-5:00pm

This drop-in session is for any member of the Graduate Center community with questions about scholarly publishing or other aspects of scholarly communication.

 

Archival Research Virtual Office Hours

Wednesday 9/3 and 9/17, 11:00am – 12:00pm

Have a question about archival research?  GC community members are invited to stop by the library’s bi-weekly online office hours for one-on-one assistance with archives-related topics. Bring your questions about finding analog and digital sources, using archives, conducting background research, and more.

 

Zotero Drop-In Help

Monday 9/15, 9/22, and 9/29, 1:00pm-2:00pm

Stephen Klein (Digital Services Librarian) holds one-on-one Zotero virtual office hours for drop-in video consultations on Mondays 1-2pm. Zotero is open source citation software enabling users to easily collect, organize, cite and share.

Welcome to the fall semester! This workshop will cover essential information about using the Mina Rees Library: searching for books, finding a journal, identifying useful databases, placing interlibrary loan requests, and more. Recommended for anyone who is new to the Graduate Center or SLU, or new to library research. Please bring your questions!

 

Science Workshop Series – Intro to the Databases and Research Methods

Monday 9/15, 11:00am-12:00pm

This workshop will cover all the basics of using the Mina Rees library, including finding articles and e-books, logging onto databases and journals remotely, and who to turn to for help on a specific topic. This workshop is designed for STEM students, but anyone is welcome.

 

Science Workshop Series – Intro to Zotero for Citation Management

Monday 9/29, 6:00pm-7:00pm

This workshop will teach you how to use Zotero, free open-source software that can manage your research and create your bibliographies. This workshop will focus on creating accounts, installing the software, and getting you started in using this time-saving tool.

 

Introduction to Zotero

Tuesday 9/30, 2:30pm-3:30pm

Stephen Klein (Digital Services Librarian) will demonstrate how to install and use Zotero.

Interlibrary Loan

As always, the Mina Rees Library encourages everyone to submit InterLibrary Loan (ILL) requests! ILL is an excellent way to obtain materials beyond the Graduate Center Library, in the form of print books, electronic articles/Ebook chapters, DVD’s, microfilm and more. Visit the Library Directory to find the librarian for your program. Feel free to select a time/date from the calendar that works for you to meet with them.
