May 12 – Ilan Ehrlich (History, ’09) on his biography of Eduardo Chibás

Biographies by Fellows: Langdon Hammer on James Merrill, Ilan Ehrlich on Eduardo Chibás

6:30pm Tuesday, May 12, 2015. William P. Kelly Skylight Room (9th Floor), The Graduate Center, CUNY (365 Fifth Ave., at 34th St.)

Please join us for a celebration of two new books as Gary Giddins introduces two former fellows of the Leon Levy Center for Biography. Langdon Hammer, chair of the English Department at Yale, will speak on James Merrill: Life and Art (Knopf), one of the most eagerly-awaited literary biographies in years. Giddins will interview Hammer about a book that The New Yorker calls an “extraordinary biography” and The New York Times calls “nearly flawless.” Ilan Ehrlich, who was a dissertation fellow and is now Assistant Professor of History at Bergen Community College, will speak on his political biography Eduardo Chibás: The Incorrigible Man of Cuban Politics (Rowman & Littlefield), which began as his PhD thesis at the Graduate Center.
