May Events at The Writing Center

In this final month of the semester, The Writing Center will be hosting two webinars. As usual, we also continue to offer individual consultations and to sponsor a virtual study space (see below).

Revising an Essay for Publication
May 7, 3:00-4:00 PM, register here
This webinar will introduce participants to the process of submitting an article to a peer-reviewed journal. It will cover issues like (1) the key elements of an article, (2) choosing the right journal, (3) understanding what editors and reviewers do after you submit (and the ways this knowledge may affect your revision choices), and (4) responding to reviewer comments if you get a “revise and resubmit.”

The Academic Job Cover Letter
May 24, 1:00-2:00 PM, register here
The academic job cover letter is a crucial document in any candidate’s application materials; often, it makes the first and most lasting impression on members of a search committee. In this webinar, participants will learn how to approach the writing of their cover letter in a way that makes a coherent and compelling argument about their suitability as a candidate rather than simply repeating information contained in their CV. This webinar will be repeated in September of next school year, but it is offered now for people interested in drafting their materials over the summer months.

Also, a reminder that The Writing Center is now hosting a virtual study space via Gather Town. You can read and write in a range of virtual common areas, as well as talk and text message with people in the same space as you. Check it out for yourself by going to
