For Thursday, Nov 30 — the date that the Professional Staff Congress (PSC) contract expires with CUNY management — we invite you to a Graduate Center Speak-Out at 12:30pm in the Dining Commons. Several demands have coalesced in the building:

  • We say YES to a PSC Contract that centers $7K/class minimum and job security for adjuncts, paid leave for librarians, and increased salaries and job security for HEOs.
  • We say YES to full GC budget transparency and democratization.
  • We say NO to a proposed Master’s students tuition increase up to $1,200/semester.
  • We say NO to uneven doctoral student funding packages, limited tuition remission, and unequal teaching loads in the CUNY system.

This semester, the Graduate Center community has taken action to address these concerns. The CUNY Adjunct Project haunted the administration with the specter of campus protests for $7K, job security, and universal fellowships and tuition remission for GC students. The Doctoral Students Council launched a campaign for Budget Transparency and Democratization (both within the DSC and the general GC budget). The DSC and GC PSC chapter passed resolutions for the administration’s proposed master’s students tuition increase (“Academic Excellency Fee”) to be revoked. Across all programs and centers in the building, the deep gash of austerity has been felt for years, even though Chase Robinson makes $350,000+/year and the CUNY Board of Trustees are multi-millionaire executives (and more raises for administrators are on the horizon).

Let’s come together for the GC Speak-Out this Thursday, Nov. 30, and then on Monday, Dec. 4, for a PSC Contract Rally. All GC students, faculty, and staff are welcomed to participate.
