Public History Collective (PHC) – two events!

First, a public conversation between Sarah Pharaon and Sean Kelley, scheduled for 1-2:30 pm on Fri, Feb 3 at the GC in room 8304.

Sarah is the Senior Director of Methodology and Practice at the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience which is based in New York, and Sean is the Vice President of the Eastern State Penitentiary Historic Site in Philadelphia. This conversation between friends will follow two prompts about public history and civic engagement:

  • How do you think about and talk about the relationship between activism and history?
  • Do you ever face accusations of doing “presentist” history or history with a political agenda?

Second, a field trip to the Museum of the City of New York on Friday, March 3rd, at 2:00 pm. We will get a special tour of the new exhibition New York at its Core: 400 Years of NYC History from PHC members who worked on the curatorial and education teams for this exhibit.

Please RSVP to both events by January 31 at cunyphc@gmail.com and we will update you on room and meeting place details.

The PHC’s regular groups meetings are at 1 pm, the last Friday of every month in the History department dissertation room. Visit our website for updates on events, speakers, and to join!
