Job Opportunities

Seeking a Research Associate

The job requires ordering ship logbooks in the collection of the New York Public Library (NYPL) held in The Brooke Russell Astor Reading Room for Rare Books and Manuscripts and imaging of selected pages as requested. Requirements for access to the logbooks includes a library card account with the NYPL and also the establishment of a Special Collections account. The list of logbooks and specific instructions for each logbook will be provided. The logbooks are all in original bound volumes and will require a camera to image needed pages. The files must be rendered as JPEG (.jpg) and annotated with a filename for each image to correctly identify the logbook and date range contained within the image. No transcription of the information included in the images is required.

Previous experience in working in archives, and The Brooke Russell Astor Reading Room specifically, is required. Familiarity with ship logbooks is desirable but not required. Please contact Michael Chenoweth at m.chenoweth@verizon.net

if you are interested in this short-term project. The estimated time to complete the work is three to five days.
